“Smooth Jazz Odyssey” with Everette Harp sponsored by Mercedes-Benz of Orlando on 17-92 in Maitland.
Hear the music you’ve been missing every Saturday night from 10-12pm on Smooth Jazz Odyssey hosted by legendary saxophonist Everette Harp. Each week Everette plays the best Smooth Jazz from the 70’s and 80’s.
Smooth Jazz Odyssey reaches back to the roots of the Smooth Jazz format that originated in the 1970s when record labels like CTI, Blue Note, MCA, A&M and GRP were flourishing. Before Norman Brown and Peter White, there was George Benson and Earl Klugh, who set the artistic standard that all others strive to meet. Before trumpeter Rick Braun, there was Miles Davis, and Chuck Mangione. Before there was Fourplay, Bob James was making his own music with a multitude of solo albums and collaborations.
Smooth Jazz Odyssey focuses on the giants of the era like Stanley Turrentine, Gato Barbieri, Donald Byrd, Grover Washington, Stanley Clarke, George Duke, Lee Ritenour, David Sanborn, Joe Sample, The Crusaders, Michael Franks, Freddy Hubbard, Ronnie Laws, Alex Bugnon, Hubert Laws, Herbie Hancock, Tom Scott, Spyrogyra, Chuck Mangione and Pat Metheny.
“Classic” formats abound today. There is Classic Rock, Classic Hits, Classic Country, Old School R&B and Oldies. Yet for a format with an almost forty year heritage, there is no “Classic Smooth Jazz”… until now. Smooth Jazz Odyssey fills a void and engages listeners with tid bits of history, personal stories, and the occasional visit from contemporary Smooth Jazz Artists. Everette Harp frames the musical presentation beautifully with a sincere, warm and personal style that resonates with listeners.
Smooth Jazz Odyssey airs every Saturday night on Smooth Jazz 103.1 WLOQ from 10pm – 12pm.
